Introduction

What’s this about?

This blog is conceived of as a place to gather references to news stories, reviews, and discussion of literary scholarship, especially as focused on aspects of literary history. The focus is on English-language literary culture, but items from wider afield are also included on occasion. So, too, while the focus is on literary history, scholarship that deals with other related domains (such as hermeneutics and interpretation, language  and linguistic history, cultural history, folklore, film and media) may also find a mention here, especially if it bears some connection with literary historical concerns.

The orientation is towards literary history, rather than contemporary literary publishing and the creative writing world (for which there is already an extensive set of institutions engaged in both the work of marketing and of reviewing and commentary), but literary history creeps up, of course, into the present, so there is no hard and fast borderline here. The focus is on scholarship in literary studies, but this is taken to include an interest in teaching editions and other materials found at the interface of scholarship and pedagogy.

The blog offers weekly updates that call attention to current news and, over time, it also hopes to build up certain kinds of indexes to relevant resources (e.g. digital scholarly projects in literary history)
